The Baldwin Fighting Highlander basketball teams play in the 6A division.

The boy’s basketball team defeated Bethel Park 74-59 on Tuesday.

The team is off to a 4-1 start in non-section play, “the best record our team has seen since Coach (Jeff) Ackerman started,” sophomore Max Marzina said.

The team had many positive takeaways on both sides of the ball.

“We really shared the ball and scored at all levels,” junior Caden Cherico said.

Defensively, the Highlanders shut down most of the Bethel Park players and rebounded well, Cherico said.

Cherico had a strong game, especially because of a stretch during which he scored seven points in a row by himself, Marzina said.

Some other Highlanders also stood out during the game.

“Nate Wesling has been scoring great recently and Nate Richards has been too,” Cherico said.

With hopes of continuing the team’s winning ways, the Highlanders look forward to making some improvements in their game.

“We still need more rebounds and to play better defense at times,” Cherico said.

Baldwin’s next game will be at home Dec. 19 against Seneca Valley.
