Several Baldwin track athletes earned ribbons by placing top eight at the South Fayette Invitational on Saturday.

Only the top three athletes from each team in each event participate in the invitationals.

“The girls 4X800 team placed and got a ribbon,” senior Alayna Kercher said. “Brooklyn Lucas got fourth overall in javelin, which was really good.”

Sophomore Zach Lieu said other standout athletes included Jonus Ruvolo, Annabelle Herrle, Olivia Shellman, and several of the Baldwin relay teams.

Several Baldwin athletes were able to place in the top eight of their events as well as achieve personal records.

“At invitationals, we race to compete our best times to try and make it to WPIALs,” Kercher said.

Kercher said while she did not achieve a PR herself, many other runners did. She also said that the runners who were able to place did well considering the amount of teams and athletes at the invitational.

The boys track team competes in WPIAL team playoffs on Tuesday. Then on Friday, both teams will compete in the Baldwin Invitational.
