Baldwins girls tennis team competes in the fall, and boys compete in the spring.

The boys tennis team lost to Bethel Park 5-0 yesterday.

Sophomore Carter Smeal said Bethel played very strong overall.

“They played very consistently, had great serves, and finished points very well,” Smeal said.

Senior Kismat Bista said that the loss allowed the team to identify ways to improve.

“We need to work on fundamentals like our service and returning. We will have a hard time winning if we don’t get better,” Bista said.

Bista also said that the loss was not shocking, as multiple Baldwin players were absent.

“We had two of our great players missing, so everyone got ranked up and had to play more skilled opponents,” Bista said.

Smeal thought that sophomore Nikita Petruk had an exceptionally strong performance.

“Nikita went to a tie break with his opponent and played great for the whole match,” Smeal said.

Bista agrees that Petruk played well.

“Nikita’s match was great to watch. He did well getting to the ball in time,” Bista said.

Smeal hopes that the team can improve before their next match.

“We hope to improve on our service, consistency, and finishing points for the next match to hopefully win more games,” Smeal said.

The loss brings the team’s record to 1-10. Their next match is today, away against North Hills.
