My experience with performing has been the most formative and beloved part of my high school journey. There have been so many opportunities to grow through our arts program, giving me the tools that ultimately led me to major in acting at Baldwin Wallace University.
In my mind, the last four years completely revolved around my passion for the arts. Each year is marked by milestones like the spring musicals, fall plays, and choir concerts. Nothing makes me feel more supported than being around my friends who share my love for creating.
In my freshman year musical, Matilda, I remember feeling unsure about my abilities. But once we began rehearsals, I noticed that the environment was incredibly easy for me to grow through. I was in a great situation by being a part of the “featured kids,” continuously collaborating with my peers.
The experiences and friendships I made through Matilda gave me the confidence to work harder every year after that. My triumphs are shown by being cast as the Evil Stepmother, Madame, in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella and as Violet in 9 to 5.
One tradition that will truly stick with me is performing with the Baldwinaires around Christmas time. The most magical gift is the opportunity to perform for my community. Singing at places like Caste Village, nursing homes, and the Baldwin Borough building has been so special to me because we can clearly see the number of people our choir impacts.
When pursuing a career in acting, the sky is the limit. I will take with me what I have learned over my four years, use these skills, and work hard to blossom through my craft.
Even though I will miss my time at Baldwin High School, I feel incredibly ready to head into college confidently. Pursuing my passion has been my dream since I was very young, so majoring in acting is exactly the full circle moment I have been looking forward to.
