The five new songs featured on the deluxe version of Conan Gray’s third album, Wishbone, fit in perfectly with the rest of the album, adding to the pop rock vibe of the initial release.
The first new release, “Do I Dare,” is a song about feeling conflicted about whether to reconnect with a past partner. The song repeats the title over and over again, reinforcing the anxious nature of the speaker’s internal debate.
The second new track is “House That Always Rains,” another song about a failed past relationship. The upbeat song contradicts the meaningful, sad lyrics, following the energy of the rest of the album.
The next two songs on the album, “Moths” and “Door,” really exhibit Gray’s vocal talent. Since Gray began channeling his love for music into songwriting at only 12 years old, his vocal capabilities have significantly developed — and it shows.
In 2017, when Gray was 17, he released his first single, “Idle Town.” Almost a decade later, the artist has certainly risen to fame, with three albums and even more singles. His talent has always been evident, but this album, and especially this deluxe release, has solidified his title as one of the best artists of this generation.
Finally, the deluxe album ends with “The Best.” This song is arguably the most catchy of the new releases. The beat and instrumentals behind the song, as well as the powerful lyrics, create a perfect ending to a phenomenal album.
