Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, the sequel to the original Tomodachi Life, has finally been released after 13 years, and it is just as charming as the first game.
Developed by Nintendo EPD, Living the Dream is a life simulation game where characters called Miis interact with each other on an island. Many unpredictable, funny scenarios can happen, since Miis mostly act on their own without players directing them.
Living the Dream allows much more character customization than the original game, with a wider range of facial features, hairstyles, and personalities. Players can also draw on a Mii’s face, clothes, and other items, which lets them be creative and add any sort of character to their islands.
The gameplay has also greatly improved. Miis can now go outside their homes to walk around the island and interact instead of staying inside like in the first game. Players are also able to pick up their Miis and place them near others to make relationships develop more quickly.
Other new features like “little quirks,” dating preferences, and family dynamics can make Miis more accurate to whomever they are based on.
However, the amount of customization might make players feel like they have too much control over the game, taking away from the dramatic charm of the original.
With the drawing feature, fans worry that artistic players will turn making characters into a competition, which would distract from actually enjoying the game. The fun of playing is meant to be in the characters, not their appearances.
Regardless, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is worth playing, as it is able to relax players and make them laugh.
