With the release of the free Baltic Battalion update, the Broken Arrow community has been left with mixed feelings about the new content and lack of balance updates.
The new specialization, the Baltic Battalion, has proven to be a fairly strong choice for the U.S. playerbase. With units from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, there is a large variety of choice and strong units for players to use in their decks. The unique mechanic present with this specialization is that each unit shares a unit slot in the deck, but players can choose which nation’s unit is used.
Currently, the game is dominated by a few key units and strategies, namely the usage of support artillery, the M10 Booker light tank, and the mass usage of various cheap Russian transport tanks.
In this update there was a single change to artillery, that being increased aiming time, making it slower for artillery to aim to the position its being dropped on. This has proven to considerably reduce the ability of artillery to be used in a reactionary playstyle and has increased the skill required to use it effectively.
While this has been proven effective in curbing the excessive use of artillery, there have been no changes to other units that have been plaguing the game’s balance.
The new units are fun to play and provide new opportunities for combined arms in U.S. forces, but there are still lots of units that outshine their Baltic counterparts, leading to largely stale gameplay for most matches.
For fans and those who play Broken Arrow regularly, there is no real reason to not get the update. However, for those who left the game due to issues with its balance, it’s best to still steer clear of the game until a later date.
