Corrosion of Conformity lives up to expectations with their new album, Good God / Baad Man.
The 14-song album runs just over an hour and is their first album since 2018’s No Cross No Crown.
Good God / Baad Man keeps with the sound that has defined COC since the early ’90s: hardcore punk infused with groove metal.
The opening track “Good God? / Final Dawn” is a solid song that leaves the listener wanting more, but it also leaves a bit to be desired for an opening track.
The album really kicks off in the second and third tracks, “You Or Me” and “Gimme Some Moore,” with both songs featuring guitar riffs and small runs that sound like they came straight from 1994’s Deliverance. They also feature drums that punch right through the songs to make sure listeners aren’t missing anything.
The band experiments in a ghostly-sounding instrumental called “Bedouin’s Hand.” They follow that with “Run For Your Life,” a nine-minute song that remains a solid track throughout.
The final standout track is “Brickman,” an acoustic piece that provides a tonal shift before the album’s final song.
Overall, the double album is a strong showcase of what makes COC great, mixing punk elements with sludge and groove metal to create a sound that very few bands can match.
