North Carolina basketball has been doing better than expected without freshman Caleb Wilson, but it has been looking like they need him back.
The first loss without Wilson was against North Carolina State in February, one of the Tar Heels’ biggest rivals. They lost 82-58. It hurts losing a rival game like that, but recently, the Tarheels have been getting more comfortable, and they had a big win over the 24th-ranked team in the country, Louisville, 77-74, a week later.
Coach Hubert Davis said Wilson could be back Saturday against Duke at their place, which would help a lot because Duke is ranked No. 1 in the AP poll this week, and it could be the first time the Tarheels sweep Duke in the regular season since 2020.
The Tarheels have been shooting the three very well, with freshman Luka Bogavac and other freshman Derek Dixon, but every guy on the team is pretty consistent behind the arc.
The best thing they do is shoot threes, but they also have been playing ideal defense, and they have been looking like they can beat any team.
The Tarheels are probably going to be a 4 or 5 seed in the NCAA tournament, and with Wilson coming back, they should make a good run.
