Valentine’s Day celebrates loved ones

Valentine’s Day is one of the most underrated holidays and a good way to show appreciation for your loved ones. 

The holiday is often overlooked as just another day where people post their significant other, but the day can be much more than that. People should no longer treat the day as only for people with a girlfriend or boyfriend, as there are plenty of people to show their love to. 

Besides the classic date night for couples, the holiday has now expanded for people to celebrate their friends and themselves. Galentine’s Day has now become popular among teenage and young adult women. The celebration typically includes women enjoying brunch together and exchanging gifts. 

Celebrating self-love has also become more popular, with people buying gifts and treating themselves. This is different from most holidays, where the focus is on buying gifts for other people. 

The holiday also gives people something to look forward to after the holiday season and before the weather starts to warm up. Many people regard January, February, and March as the worst months, with their too cold weather and lack of holidays. However, Valentine’s Day is one day that can bring some much needed happiness. 

The food that comes with the holiday is also part of the reason why the holiday is so great. Chocolate-covered strawberries, high-quality chocolates, and fun drinks from every local coffee shop give the holiday some of the best tastes. 

Overall, Valentine’s Day is an enjoyable holiday anyone can celebrate. 

Consumerism, stress ruin holiday

Even though Valentine’s Day is full of love, the day is ultimately filled with expectations and consumerism. 

Valentine’s Day happens once a year; meanwhile, there should be multiple days that focus on our loved ones. Instead, people have to stress to plan a “perfect day,” since it only happens once annually. 

Along with the stress from planning the day, having to find the perfect gifts for loved ones causes more stress. Also, there is the worry about whether you spent too little or too much on  gifts for your loved ones. 

Along with the holiday comes a lot of unrealistic expectations created on social media. Thanks to influencers, Valentine’s Day is overexposed and overly hyped. The restaurants they go to and the gifts they receive are unrealistic for most people. 

Valentine’s Day is heavily marketed from the middle of January through Feb. 14. Every store has a large selection of gifts, which are all advertised online or on TV. 

The idea of Valentine’s Day gives businesses a different personality trait during the month of February. Fast food places, clothing stores, and grocery stores all change how their place of business looks during February. 

Businesses invest in creating items that are only focused on the holiday of Valentine’s Day, such as specific clothes that most people only wear during the month of February and then never again. 

Dunkin’ Donuts has its Valentine’s Day menu, which only lasts for a couple of weeks. Once the limited-time items are taken off the menu, consumers get upset because their new favorite drink or food item is gone. 

Valentine’s Day may seem enjoyable to some people, but overall, it is overrated.
