The new Bridgerton season showcases a plot similar to Cinderella and friendship dynamics among the characters, but it falls through on the complexity factor.
This season, Benedict Bridgerton seeks a wife after an eventful time at his mother’s masquerade ball, where he meets a lady in silver. She leaves at midnight after sharing a kiss with Bridgerton, when everyone else unmasks themselves, and she leaves her glove with him.
As the season progresses, it turns out that the lady in silver is a maid who disguised herself to get into the masquerade ball.
Meanwhile, Lady Danbury is planning on retiring as Queen Charlotte’s lady-in-waiting after spending many years as her companion, which brings some tension between the characters.
The audience also sees more of Penelope Bridgerton, who is appointed by the queen for duty and is also seen expanding her relationship with the rest of the Bridgertons as one of their sisters-in-law.
But overall, the script for this season feels lazy and could have been done better for the characters this season.
Since this season is focused on Benedict Bridgerton, it feels very lazy for his character, who is known for his “free spirit” and adventurous personality. Since he is against societal norms, it would have been more enjoyable if there were more depth to the plot and more original themes for his season.
Though some aspects have been interesting to see, such as the friendship dynamics, the plot feels unoriginal. The other seasons were far more entertaining for viewers interested in a more intricate plot.
The second part of the season will be released on Feb. 26.
