Some people were upset with the winners at Sunday’s 68th annual Grammy Awards, but many of the artists who won fully deserved the award.
One of the more controversial categories was the Best New Artist award. Nominees for this award included Olivia Dean, Alex Warren, Lola Young, Addison Rae, Katseye, Leon Thomas, Sombr, and the Marias.
Many fans were upset that Dean won this category for her album The Art of Loving, arguing that the Marias should have won for their album Submarine. But Dean has an amazing voice and deserved the win. Additionally, she used her platform to advocate for fans and immigrants as she spoke out against ICE during her speech.
The Best Pop Vocal award went to Lady Gaga for her album Mayhem, but it should have gone to Sabrina Carpenter for her album Man’s Best Friend. Carpenter fans were disappointed that, despite her six award nominations, she did not win any of them. Carpenter also had an amazing live performance, teasing her Man’s Best Friend Tour dates in her set background.
Some viewers said Bad Bunny shouldn’t have won the Best New Album award. But it was deserved, and this was the first Spanish-language album to win in this award category. Bunny should be extremely proud of this accomplishment as a Puerto Rican rapper and singer, as he inspires many people with his music.
Many talented artists performed at this year’s ceremony, including Reba McEntire, whose first performance at the awards ceremony featured her singing “Trailblazer” as a tribute to her late stepson, Brandon Blackstock.
Another artist who made heads turn with their performance was Justin Bieber, singing his song “Yukon” in his boxers. His performance was extremely confusing, viewers questioned why he intentionally dressed the way he did. Others thought the acoustics were sensational and didn’t question the creativity of his performance.
