Holiday songs boost seasonal spirit

As December approaches, there’s no better way to get in the seasonal spirit than listening to holiday music.

There is a general positive mood surrounding winter, whether it be about breaks or the numerous holidays approaching. That being said, it deserves a genre of upbeat music.

It assists people in many ways by giving hopeful music to associate with the season to make it feel more magical. Even later in the year, it can provide instant mood changers to take listeners back to a more relaxed time of the year.

The majority of songs talk about cheery topics such as spending time with loved ones and the nostalgia of long-standing traditions.

Kelly Clarkson’s “Underneath the Tree” talks about how the company of people is much more valuable than any gift she has ever received. This sends the message that people should not depend on materialistic things as their source of happiness.

“Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by Band Aid spreads the message of the lack of privilege in poor countries and how the holidays should be a time for people to be generous. The song helped to raise money for the famine that was happening in Ethiopia at the time, giving more positive effects on the season than just being a catchy song.

Along with joyful lyrics, many have a feel-good backing track with sleigh bells, drums, and energetic instrumentals. Such songs include “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey and “Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms.

Holiday music haters typically do not enjoy the overexposure they get bombarded with as soon as Thanksgiving is over, but something being popular does not automatically mean it is bad.

Overall, having fun music to listen to while decorating the tree or walking through the snow improves the holiday season.

The same songs get played all the time

Christmas songs can be enjoyable at first, but they also have downsides. The main problem with Christmas songs is that, especially on the radio, the same songs are constantly overplayed

The overexposure of the same songs year after year can make people lose interest in holiday music altogether, taking away some of the enjoyment that music is supposed to bring.

During the holidays, it is impossible to escape Christmas music. It’s everywhere – not just on the radio, but also in movies, commercials, and social media. No matter where you go, the same songs are constantly being played or promoted, making it impossible to get a break from them.

And when people leave their houses, they’re sure to hear the same songs being played on repeat in stores and in restaurants, starting in November. The Christmas season has expanded, taking up two months of the whole year. Hearing the same songs for months straight is extremely tiresome.

The Christmas holidays start way too soon, skipping over Thanksgiving. The day after Halloween, Christmas songs are suddenly on every radio channel and in every store.

Christmas songs also all sound similar; they usually focus on the same topics. Many songs talk about snow, winter, family, love, and holiday traditions. There aren’t a lot of unique Christmas songs – and if there are, a lot of people don’t know about them because they’re never played.

Holiday songs are limited in their kinds of genres, such as pop, jazz, a few country, and somber ones here and there. Having the same genres makes the music sound so similar, and it never helps when the same artists make covers of the same popular songs.

Even though different artists sing them, the songs are still the same. Hearing the same song performed in a different voice certainly does not change how repetitive it feels.
