The Chair Company, starring Tim Robinson, fits well into his usual comedy style but has a suspenseful twist.
In the HBO series, Robinson’s character, William Trosper, has just been given a new position managing the construction of a shopping mall. When he announces the project during a company presentation, his chair breaks from under him and he falls to the floor. This leads him to head down a rabbit hole involving a conspiracy about Tecca, the company that produces the chairs.
The show keeps a frivolous tone even in the serious moments. This makes it so that viewers can laugh the entire time while also being pulled into the suspenseful plot.
The overall idea of the plot is nonsensical. However, Robinson entertains the audience with side plots of his journey involving his family life and trying to keep up with his new job.
The show is hilariously random and great at keeping the viewers on their feet.
The ending for this season is pretty rushed, along with being confusing and slightly disturbing. It is disappointing as it involves a subject that had nothing to do with the plot throughout the previous episodes. HBO has approved a second season.
At times, the show may feel like it has gone astray from the plot and gotten a bit scattered. But overall, it is funny and holds an intriguing mystery.
