The movie Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is fairly enjoyable, with lots of action and jumpscares. While viewers probably need to have watched the original film, knowledge of the video games they are based on is not necessary.
The story takes place almost a year after the first movie, featuring friends Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson), Vanessa Afton (Elizabeth Lail), and Abby Schmidt (Piper Rubio) facing a new antagonist.
In the first movie, Mike was an overnight security guard in the creepy, abandoned Freddy Fazbear Pizza. Mike brought Abby along, and the two found out about the animatronic creatures having the souls of the murdered children.
The second movie starts with a flashback, as a young girl named Charlotte Emily is killed by William Afton, the villain from the first movie, in a Freddy Fazbear pizzeria. Most of the rest of the new movie focuses on Charlotte’s animatronic, an angry marionette, seeking revenge on the adults who could have saved her life.
Meanwhile, Mike’s younger sister, Abby, struggles with the loss of her friends, who have been killed and turned into animatronics. Mike is trying to help her slowly adjust, but he is unable to tell her that by the end of the first movie, the animatronics are gone, and their body parts cannot be found.
The movie, in general, is really enjoyable. There are multiple references to Five Nights lore, the most notable one being when Mike puts on a Freddy mask, and the animatronics don’t notice him being an intruder or a security guard.
Another positive is that this sequel has a lot more jump scares than the first movie, which makes it more similar to the games. There is also more of a horror aspect to it, and there is more action for the viewers.
However, an issue with the movie is that the story can be confusing, and the pacing is either really slow or too fast for people to understand. The acting wasn’t the best at times, either.
Overall, the movie is very entertaining, and most Five Nights fans would adore it.
