Since their rise started in November 2023 with their sophomore album, Have a Nice Day, Treaty Oak Revival has gained a massive following, with over 6 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone.

They released their third album, West Texas Degenerate, over the Thanksgiving break, and the band based out of Odessa, Texas, has produced more songs their fans will love.

The album currently sits as the No. 1 country album on the Apple Music charts, and they have passed some of the largest names in country music, such as Morgan Wallen and Ella Langley, in current streaming popularity.

Their sound can be described as a rough, Midwestern emo sound with country roots. Fans are dubbing this new sound as “Southwest emo.” Other Texas artists, such as Koe Wetzel, Whiskey Myers, and Giovannie and the Hired Guns, have this similar sound and are helping to grow the new genre.

The album features 12 full songs as well as intro and closing songs, clocking in at a total of 48 minutes.The listening experience goes by rapidly with the familiar feeling the songs have, but it does not come up short. The title track, “West Texas Degenerate” featuring William Clark Green, has their beloved sound, with lyrics about living and working in the West Texas area.

Other songs, such as “Port A” and “Naders.” have the sound fans would expect when listening to this band. But the sound does not get old because of the variety in use of drums and guitars.

The record’s last full song, “Blue Star”, does not feature as much heavy country rock as their other songs do. It has a much more of a pop rock feeling, and it is nice to see the band push the limits of their traditional sound. It is promising for the band’s future to see more variety in their sound.
