The Guillermo Del Toro film Frankenstein is a more accurate version of the story that has been told in previous movies.

In most of the classic Frankenstein movies, the creature has been depicted as violent and monstrous. But Mary Shelley, the author of the novel Frankenstein, had a vision of the creature having depth as a pure-hearted character confused by its purpose and struggling with isolation.

Jacob Elordi does a great job portraying the creature in the film.

With the majority of his acting being non-verbal, he shows a powerful amount of emotion through his movement and expressions. He still makes this feel like a horror film with his performance in the intense scenes, periodically making the viewer fear the creature while also sympathizing with it. 

Elordi adds a depth to the character that has not been shown in past movies. Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth also create notable performances and do a good job at immersing the audience in the plot.

Del Toro’s use of vibrancy makes him stand out from other directors. His use of color works perfectly with the contrasting gothic vibe of the movie.

At times, the movie does feel drawn out with a lack of action. However, the thoughtful plot and depth of the characters keeps the audience engaged and pays respects to the original book.
