Playboi Carti’s Antagonist Tour concert on Saturday at PPG Paints Arena offered new and old fans a good time.
Carti’s set started around three and a half hours after doors opened, and he performed for roughly an hour and a half. Like most artists, Carti opened the show with songs off of his newest album, Music, but then transitioned into his older hits.
There were some surprises in the setlist for the Pittsburgh show specifically, as Carti performed “Place,” which he had not performed in over four years. He also played “Sky,” as a line in the song references “the first of the month,” and his Pittsburgh show was the first day of November.
Carti went all out on his stage design, which featured two semi trucks moving forward and backward underneath a raised platform, which all of the artists performed on. On the floor, there were two pickup trucks with spotlights on top of them. Hanging lights over the pit partially obstructed views of the stage at points during the show, but the stage was still primarily viewable.
This show stands out from others primarily due to the fact that it operates on a rolling schedule. Big headliners typically bring one or two openers on their tour and the space in between sets seems to drag on. But starting from 7 p.m. onwards, there were only five or 10 minutes between openers.
The openers included Apollo Red, Homixide Gang, Destroy Lonely, and Ken Carson, who are all a part of Carti’s Opium Label. The order in which the openers performed was also a good choice, as each artist had more and more energy, building anticipation and hype for Carti.
As a whole, the concert feels more like an experience than anything. Seeing Carti and his label finally perform together after their tour two years ago got cancelled certainly raised expectations, and Carti delivered.
