Resident Evil is an iconic Japanese horror franchise that originated in the world of video games but has since reached out to movies and even a TV show on Netflix.
With the series’ popularity and extensive length, fans consistently debate which video game is the best. The series features characters like Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and the notorious Albert Wesker.
The world of Resident Evil still feels the aftermath of the original Raccoon City incident caused by the nefarious Umbrella Corporation, even though the franchise has changed significantly since its first installation in 1996. Over the years, the series has evolved from a third-person to a first-person point of view. The series has also had many enemies, such as zombies, parasites, mold monsters, and Lycans.
Here are the three Resident Evil games which best define the series:

Resident Evil 2 is easily one of the best in the franchise, introducing fan-favorite characters such as Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, the latter being the sister of Chris from the previous game.
Whether gamers are playing the remake or the original, Resident Evil 2 offers a thrilling storyline that improves drastically on its predecessor.
Monsters like Mr. X have become synonymous with the franchise, though that style of antagonist would be improved upon with the addition of Nemesis in Resident Evil 3.
Resident Evil 2 is a masterclass of survival horror, with the remake boasting incredible graphics and thought-provoking puzzles.

Resident Evil: 4 on an old refurbished Game Cube. Resident Evil by Ray Dehler is licensed under CC BY 2.0 DEED.Resident Evil 4
For Resident Evil 4, players revisit Leon S. Kennedy. No longer a cop in Raccoon City, which was nuked in Resident Evil 3, Kennedy is now a government agent sent to Spain to recover the president of the United States’s daughter, who has been kidnapped.
Leon and the president’s daughter, Ashley Graham, fight through waves of enemies – no longer the typical zombies fans are used to, but cultists infected with the parasite Las Plagas. Resident Evil 4 also has an incredible remake which can be played on PSVR, and the original has a VR port which is available on Oculus Quest.
This game is one of the most popular in the franchise for good reason, and it is beloved by the fans.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard terrorizes with iconic villains like Jack Baker and Eveline. Biohazard by is licensed underResident Evil 7
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard represents a shift in the series towards a modern era as it plays from a first-person point of view. Unlike its predecessors 4, 5, and 6, which mainly focussed on action, Biohazard returns to horror as its primary genre.
This game takes on a new main character, Ethan Winters, who is in search of his missing wife in a Louisiana swamp. To find her, however, Winters must surpass the monstrous Baker family and the mold creatures.
Without question, this installment is the most terrifying Resident Evil game to date. Notably, this game is almost void of the previously established characters in the storyline, further signifying a new era for the series.
As with Resident Evil 4, the brave can take the challenge of Biohazard into PSVR.
