The Black Keys make a return using their classic sound with their new album, Ohio Players

The Black Keys are known for being a ’90s alternative band, but they are still touring and releasing music. The album’s title, Ohio Players, is a tribute to both a ’70s funk band that had that name, as well as the Black Keys’ hometown of Akron, Ohio.

While they are best known for creating alternative music, their new songs have the same vibe but also add new elements – with one example being  “Candy and Her Friends,” which features rapper Lil Noid. They do, however, continue to have elements of the alt-rock genre in this album because of features from Noel Gallagher and Beck.

Ohio Players is full of collaborations with other artists close to the Black Keys, which adds the fun and energetic vibe of the album. The meshing of genres and styles in the album does not make it chaotic, but instead makes it enjoyable to listen to and a testament to the versatility of the band.

Most of the songs on the album are fast-paced with catchy choruses, but others slow it down into a sad song. Songs like “I Forgot to Be Your Lover” slow the album down and also highlight the vocal talents of Dan Auerbach, the lead singer.
