Kacey Musgraves goes back to her basics on her new album Deeper Well, staying in the folk-pop genre.

After she released duets with Zach Bryan and Noah Kahan, fans were waiting for her album to be released. Bryan’s song “I Remember Everything” was more of a country song, while “She Calls Me Back” with Kahan was an upbeat folk song, so fans did not know what to expect on this album.

Musgraves continues to impress her listeners with the storytelling in her lyrics. The opening track, “Cardinal,” is her personal story about losing a friend and wondering if they thought about reconnecting.

The lyrics on her album are meant to be relatable for listeners. She posted on Instagram that she wants to be able to help people who may be going through a similar situation.

Sway” is a calming song that is about sticking to the course of nature that fate is providing, with lyrics like, “Maybe one day / I’ll learn how to sway / Like a palm tree in the wind.”

Overall, Musgrave’s new album is successful and pleases listeners with her traditional sounds.
