Video game remasters fuel interest in classic franchises

Older video games are regularly remastered for newer game consoles, creating better graphics.

Sometimes there are minor updates, like with the recent remaster of Red Dead Redemption. Other times, the remastering is more major, as with Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4.

Though the remasters for Resident Evil happened several years ago, the graphics are still really good. They keep the same general story but fix plot holes and use different voice actors.

Most of the Final Fantasy games have been remastered, which is well deserved. This includes

Final Fantasy VII is one of the most beloved games that older generations played.

The new graphics for this remastered franchise provide a big upgrade. Again, new voice actors are used and plot holes are filled in.

While there are amazing remasters, there are some bad ones. Tomb Raider I II III Remastered is a prime example. The graphics don’t look much better than the original, and the story still makes no sense whatsoever.

Sometimes remasters arrive earlier than is necessary. Last of Us Part II was released in 2020, and it was a beloved game that came out around the same time as the PS5 did. But the video company remastered it in January. Though the animation blew everyone away in the remaster, making a remaster of such a recent game was unnecessary.

Sometimes, even remasters get remade. Sonic the Hedgehog franchise provides a really good example.

While the original remasters came out sometime more than a decade ago, there is currently another game being remastered called Sonic Generations made by the Sega company. Sonic is a beloved character and the Sega company is still currently making games and shows.
