The Baldwin Highlander Marching Band competes in PIMBA class AA.

The Baldwin High School marching band and color guard are bound for Chicago, where they will be performing at the St. Patrick’s Day parade on Saturday.

While this is their third structured parade, they have been practicing for some time. Marching band director Marissa Virgin believes that the band is prepared.

“Parade is something they’ve been doing since June,” Virgin said.

In the last week, since they have been trying on uniforms and gathering equipment, the reality of performing has hit the marching band kids.

“The trip has crept up on us a little bit,” Virgin said.

The event will be televised on Chicago ABC 7 and can be streamed at abc7chicago.com and Hulu.

Freshman Emma Ehrlich, a member of the color guard since eighth grade, is enthusiastic to be participating in a televised event.

“Of course I am excited,” Ehrlich said. “I’m going to be on national television.”

The band left early this morning 6:30 a.m. and will arrive back in Pittsburgh on Sunday evening.
