Tired of your Spotify playlists? The Purbalite is here to help with our Essential Listening series.

One of the essential albums by the Backstreet Boys is their self-titled record, which was released in their earlier years and features some of their most popular songs.

Having so many hits on this early album showcased their talents and set them up for success. The album includes both upbeat songs and slow-paced, heartfelt songs.

Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)” and “As Long as You Love Me” lean toward more relaxing sounds while also providing appealing rhythms. As for the more upbeat songs, “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” and “We’ve Got It Goin’ On” feature the more classic boy band genre.

Various songs, such as “All I Have to Give,” speak of being in love and offering everything for one’s lover.

The delivery of the lyrics perfectly relates to the songs and is clearly displayed through the tone of the band. The harmonies are skillfully aligned to showcase each singer’s strengths, making it a good lineup of songs.

The seamless flow of the songs feels natural and well put together for a near-perfect feel of ’90s music.

With its varying sounds, this is a worthy album for a wide audience to enjoy.
