Netflix’s new crime drama, Griselda, follows the life of Griselda Blanco as she enters and navigates the dangerous world of the drug trade.

Griselda, played by Sofia Vergara, takes on the role of a mother and a drug lord whose ruthless ambition to gain success for herself and the ones she loves eventually leads to her downfall.

Vergara does a brilliant job of portraying all of Blanco’s emotions, ranging from vulnerable to ruthless. As the audience follows her change throughout the show, her performance makes Griselda a must-watch for any fans of gritty crime dramas.

Produced by the team behind Narcos, the series rises to the challenge and turns a common subject – a world run by a drug lord – into something new and fresh.

Based on the real story of a female kingpin, Griselda Blanco Restrepo, the series offers a more feminine perspective to cartel life but leaves out a lot of the grit of reality.

Action scenes are lacking in the series compared to other movies and TV shows based on crime. However, for what it lacks in grit, the show makes up for in emotion and drama.

Not a moment is wasted in the show,  everything moves quickly and with perfect pacing. All important characters have dynamics and backstories that make them feel real.

Throughout the series, Blanco faces tremendous hardships with resilience and rises to the challenge of being a woman in a very male-dominated world of crime.
