In ‘Solo Leveling,’ a weak hunter gains powers

The Solo Leveling anime adaptation features a protagonist who is called the Weakest Hunter, and it focuses on his journey to become the strongest.

Solo Leveling is a manhwa, or Korean comic, created by Chugong, a Korean artist and author. A-1 Pictures recently adapted Solo Leveling, which is about monsters and monster hunters. There are gates leading to dungeons with monsters, and hunters must enter these gates to defeat the monsters and earn money or new items.

There are several ranks to distinguish the strength of a hunter, with “S” being the strongest and “E” being the weakest. The protagonist, Sung Jinwoo, is ranked “E” and called “the Weakest Hunter” because of his lack of power.

After entering a “double dungeon” housing top-ranked monsters, the protagonist is milliseconds away from dying. But a so-called “system” pops up right before his death, and the next day, he wakes up in a hospital bed. This unique system allows him to level up and climb ranks, something no other hunter can do.

So far, the adaptation has been great, particularly the animation. A-1 Pictures animates the show well, but the pacing isn’t the best.

The plot matches the original manhwa, and the voice actors improve upon the original story by livening up the fight scenes.

Even though there are a few negatives to the show, the good parts outweigh the bad, and it is a must-watch.

It is available on Crunchyroll and Amazon Prime.
