Track and football star senior Luke Smorey is in the running for USA Today’s national competition for most inspirational athlete.
Smorey overcame a flesh-eating bacteria in his elbow in the summer of 2012 and continued participating in sports the same season. Last year Smorey won the WIPIAL championship in javelin, and he has been a standout on the football team.
Being nominated “makes you realize the power to affect people who don’t have it as well as you,” Smorey said.
