The ice hockey team maintained its unbeaten streak and earned a spot in the playoffs by defeating Quaker Valley 3-0 on Monday.

Sophomore Carson Kress scored two power play goals for Baldwin, and junior Robbie Aranos got the third goal. Sophomore goalie Eddie Nowicki faced 19 shots and got the shutout.

“We played a pretty good game,” senior Vinnie Episcopo said. “It started out slow, but we stepped up our game in the third period.”

With the undefeated start to the season, a spot in the playoffs was likely. Still, senior goalie Tanner Cindrich said the chance to earn a playoff spot was a good motivator.

“Going into the game, we knew we would clinch a playoff spot if we won,” Cindrich said. “We played a good game and now we’re seeded first in our division.”

The season isn’t over yet, though.

“Even though we clinched a spot, we still have a few more games,” Cindrich said. “West Allegheny is our biggest competitor to watch for in our division.”

The next game will be against West Allegheny on Monday at 9 p.m. at Ice Castle.
