CD Review: One Direction- Midnight Memories

BY ALLISON KOERBEL
Design Editor
4 Stars

One Direction’s third album, Midnight Memories, shows a new maturity and more adult songs than the previous two. Even though almost every song is about girls, as with every record from every boy band in the world, the classic bubblegum pop sound is slowly fading.

It can still be heard in songs “Diana” and “Best Song Ever,” but a more heavy indie rock vibe can be heard throughout the album, in particular “Little Black Dress” and “Midnight Memories”. The beat to “Does He Know?” sounds very similar to “Jessie’s Girl” by Rick Springfield, but those buying the album probably won’t know that song anyways. A One Direction album can’t be complete without a soft acoustic heart-felt song. “Story Of My Life” and “Half A Heart” fit this role perfectly. This album definitely shows a new and better side of One Direction and will attract new types of fans than the standard middle school girl.
