The Baldwin Highlanders softball team beat Thomas Jefferson 3-1 in the WPIAL playoffs consolation game at West Mifflin on Tuesday.
Junior Melina DeFelice praised the team’s energy on defense.
“Our defense did very well and made plays that were necessary to keep runs from scoring,” DeFelice said.
Seniors Reese Temme and Jordan Gerendash helped make the defense competitive, she said.
“Reese and Jordan’s defense was solid. Both made the plays needed to be made,” DeFelice said.
The offense was able to perform as well. Gerendash, Temme, and sophomore Cam Temme all scored during the game. Gerendash was batted in by a single from DeFelice, Reese Temme was batted in on a single from Gerendash, and Cam Temme was batted in by a single from senior Mackenzie Bowen.
Though the team had a great game, DeFelice noted one area to work on.
“We need to hit more earlier and throughout the game,” DeFelice said.
The Highlanders now move on to state playoffs. They will play Monday, though the opponent and location are still to be determined.
