With three days until the start of the 2026 Pro Motocross season, the biggest question on every fan’s mind right now is whether Jett Lawrence will return from the ankle injury he suffered back in December.
The talus bone, which is commonly known as the ankle bone, connects the lower leg to the foot. It forms the main ankle joint with the tibia and fibula, it supports body weight, and allows for up-and-down and side-to-side movement.
Lawrence sat out for the entire 2026 Supercross season, but reports have said that he has been riding again and looks like himself, again.
For the next few days, fans can only wonder what will happen with the younger Lawrence brother, as big brother and 2026 450 Supercross Championship runner-up Hunter will be on the gate for round one.
Looking back at Jett Lawrence’s 450 Motocross career, he made his debut in summer 2023. In that year, he went on to have a perfect season, winning every race. He was the third person in the history of the sport to complete this feat.
Looking at his statistics, he has won 24 out of 27 races and 44 out of 54 motos, which is insane to think about. This is an 89% overall win rate, and an 81% individual moto win rate.
So this raises the question of what happened on those three days when he did not win.
On June 1, 2024, Lawrence was in the second week of the Pro Motocross season. He had won the opening round, so his win streak was up to 26 motos and 13 overall wins. However, this day would end the streak when he had a massive crash in the first moto. It was a serious wreck, but he got up and salvaged 24th in the first moto and sixth in the moto.
On this same day, Chase Sexton went from 40th, which is last place, to first place in a moto, which is extremely rare. Lawrence went on to race the next three weeks, and he won all three races, but he pulled out of the championship after the third race after the wreck to get surgery to fix what he injured in the wreck.
Lawrence was back for the 2025 Motocross season, and he went on to win the first seven races of the season. His second loss of his 450 Motocross career was handed to him at the eighth race of the season on July 19, 2025, at Washougal.
This was the only time he was straight up beaten by his competition. Lawrence made mistakes trying to pass for the lead, dropping him back, and he could not fully recover. He rebounded and won the second moto, but Sexton’s 1-2 score was better than Lawrence’s 3-1.
The next weekend, he was handed his third and most recent loss of his career at Ironman Raceway. Lawrence jumped the gate off of the start during moto one, and for this he was penalized a lap, leaving him in 17th place. Again, he rebounded and won the second moto, but his score of 17-1 was only good for sixth place overall.
Whenever Lawrence returns, he will now have to deal with Haiden Deegan in the 450 class, who is moving up after a dominant 250 class career.
