Now that the boys lacrosse season has ended, senior goalie Alex Myers will continue his career next year at the collegiate level at Washington and Jefferson.
“I’m very excited to make new friends, play hard, keep myself fit, and continue to play the sport I enjoy at the collegiate level,” Myers said.
Junior Kaden Kicinski is proud to see Myers committing to Washington and Jefferson.
“With Alex playing D3, I feel that there is a sign of hope for this team. I think that a lot of colleges overlook us, and we got some dawgs who can play hard. I think that moving forward some schools aren’t going to overlook this team anymore,” Kicinski said.
Junior Oliver Sulanowski agreed.
“I think it’s a great accomplishment to play a college sport at any level – especially knowing that it’s my friend who tries his best to do the sport he loves,” Sulanowski said.
Myers first discovered the sport of lacrosse in his sixth grade year.
“I have been playing since sixth grade, after seeing kids play it for the first time and thinking how cool it looked,” Myers said.
In addition to playing for Baldwin, Myers has also played for three club teams. Playing lacrosse for over six years now has taught Myers key life skills he will be able to use for the rest of his life.
“This sport has helped me develop a strong work ethic and thick skin. Taking a big hit and being able to come back stronger each time has been a key skill for me to have,” Myers said.
While lacrosse has influenced Myers, he has made an impact on his teammates.
“Alex is good with always staying positive,” Kicinski said. “He’s a good guy to have on a team. He always tries his hardest, and he’s always one of the first to pick somebody up when they are feeling down.”
With his senior season over, he looked back, fondly, of the memories that he has made.
“I love being able to celebrate positive moments with the boys. It is always a good feeling to spend time with the guys after we win,” Myers said.
Kicinski remembers celebrating big moments for the team with Myers.
“I will always remember last year when the team got its first win in three years. We were all so excited that we lifted Alex up and carried him into the locker room after the game was over,” Kicinski said.
Myers said that he had an enjoyable experience every season no matter the outcome of the season.
“I’ve made so many memories and new friendships throughout my time in this program. I tend not to get too sentimental about things, but this season has gone really good and definitely been my favorite. Obviously I love playing and winning, but the amount of fun that I have had here means more to me than anything,” Myers said.
Myers said he hopes to start training for college lacrosse soon now that Baldwin’s season is over.
“Over the summer, I’m going to be working out a lot to get into good physical shape to play. Everyone’s at the top of their game in college, so I definitely have to put in more effort,” Myers said.
