Junior Becca Gruntz placed eighth in the long jump during the track state playoffs over the weekend.
It was Gruntz’s first time at states and she went in not expecting much.
“I was really nervous about it at first,” Gruntz said. “I did not expect anything to happen. I especially did not expect a medal.”
Placing eighth in the girls long jump was a big moment for Gruntz. She jumped 17 feet, 7.5 inches at the event.
She said she did not initially realize how well she did.
“When I realized how long I jumped, I was extremely shocked and excited,” Gruntz said.
Medaling at states provides additional motivation for her as a competitor.
“Accomplishing this definitely inspires me for next year on track” Gruntz said.
