The boys volleyball team lost 3-0 to North Allegheny in the WPIAL semifinals on Monday.
Senior Dylan Leonhardt said the team’s libero, Martino Suta, stood out for Baldwin in the loss.
“He was doing really well in serve/receive, but also was in the passing lines a lot, not really letting NA get exactly what they wanted. Most people didn’t expect us to do as well as we did, and we think a big part of that was because Martino was there,” Leonhardt said.
Overall, despite the loss to North Allegheny, the Highlanders have had a strong season, Leonhardt said.
“It’s been a long time since any Baldwin volleyball team has made it this far, so our coaches have been saying since we made it to WPIALs that we’re putting ourselves in the history books,” he said. “So it means a lot to be able to make it this far and have such a successful season.”
The team has worked hard to get to where they are today, he said.
“Everyone on the team has put a lot of time in during the off-season to make themselves better, and because of that we have a group of a bunch of good players,” he said. “It was all about working together to make all those good players into a great team.”
The team plays Seneca Valley at 7:30 p.m today at Moon Area High School in the WPIAL consolation game, which will determine which team will place third overall and make it to state championships.
