Junior Mary-Kate Stock had been nominated for a Gene Kelly Award for her public relations role in the spring musical, 9 to 5.
The Gene Kelly Awards program is a competition open to high school musicals in Allegheny County. Stock, Baldwin’s only nominee this year, is nominated in the Student Artist category.
“I didn’t know I could get nominated, and being the only Baldwin nominee shocked me, but I’m also super excited,” Stock said.
There were many components to Stock’s public relations role. She oversaw the postings on the musical’s Instagram and Twitter pages. She also organized the cast tradition of giving one another gifts during the month of the show. She also ran “PR day,” in which the cast went out into the community to hang up posters and yard signs.
“I organized our PR day this year, and then afterward I collected all the videos people took and edited them together to post,” Stock said.
In preparation for her Kelly Awards nomination, Stock made a portfolio of her work.
“I had to put together a portfolio, and it was very stressful to put together,” Stock said.
Stock was also a member of the musical’s cast.
In January, Stock was part of the team that helped the fall play win the Prime Stage Award for Program and Poster Design.
“We got nominated for program and poster design, which fell under the PR category, so I got to accept that award,” she said.
The Gene Kelly Award winners will be announced at a ceremony on May 23 at the Benedum.
