The boys lacrosse team defeated Avonworth 11-3 on Wednesday.
Freshman Jasckson Voelker said the Highlanders started a little slow. At the end of the first half the score was 4-2, and the coaches had to motivate the team to play better.
“The first half we were not doing too well, and then we had to turn it up for the coaches,” Voelker said. “The coaches were on us, and we knew we needed to play better in the second half.”
Baldwin went into the second half strong, putting on pressure and securing the game.
Senior Michael Schoeb stood out on offense with three goals. He also produced several scoring opportunities.
Senior Evan Szpara thinks Baldwin played well, but the Highlanders need to stay out of the penalty box.
“We got a bunch of penalty notes that game, which was kind of ridiculous,” Szpara said.
Avonworth played their best and put up a good game according to Voelker.
“They stopped clears pretty well and got the ball off of us a few times,” Szpara said.
The lacrosse team plays against Thomas Jefferson High School at home in their final game at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
