The Baldwin softball team defeated Canon-Mac 4-0 on Monday.
Senior Mackenzie Bowen said that the team has been clicking as of late.
“We were slow with our bats in the beginning, but yesterday we were able to score early on and get ahead,” Bowen said.
Senior Reese Temme said Monday’s game showed the team’s strong chemistry.
“I’d say we played well overall. We really stepped up on defense, making every out when we had the opportunity and preventing them from scoring,” Temme said.
Bowen said that even if one player falters, other players can help pick up the slack.
“Each game is different; different people are on, and other people aren’t. But for our team, it doesn’t matter, because everyone always picks each other up,” Bowen said.
For Baldwin, junior Ava Bonacci and sophomore Camryn Temme were beneficial to the team against Canon-Mac.
“I think Camryn and Ava stood out. They have really been timely with hitting and have scored us some key runs,” Temme said.
Junior Melina DeFelice was the starting pitcher in the game, which ended in a shutout.
Canon-Mac played sharp defense, Temme said.
“They made the plays they should have, holding us to only four runs,” Temme said.
As the team is nearing the end of their season, they are shifting their focus towards WPIAL playoffs.
“We are a very good team, and if we can return to the exact way we played throughout the beginning of the season, we will be a strong competitor,” Temme said.
The team will need to focus “on timely hitting and not leaving runners on base,” Temme said. “Producing runs is so important, and it will lead us to a lot of playoff wins.”
The team’s next game is at Norwin on Wednesday.
