The baseball team dropped to third place in the section with a 7-1 loss to Montour on Tuesday.
Sophomore Hudson McKain credits Montour’s win to their consistency, which he felt Baldwin lacked.
“They kept their energy the whole game. They were in it the whole game. Unlike us, they hit well later in the game. They responded to stuff that we threw out there,” McKain said.
The Highlanders pitched well early in the game, but got deep into counts with Montour batters, McKain said.
Junior Tyler Geary credits Montour’s defense.
“They pitched decently, but their center fielder also had a lot of nice plays to not allow us to score more runs,” Geary said.
McKain said the Highlanders worked at the plate and got the pitch count up for the Montour pitchers.
“We got the pitchers’ pitch count up. That was something we did very well with,” McKain said.
Junior Logan Siefert was a standout player for Baldwin, as he had two hits.
“We had really good defense. We had no errors in the field,” Geary added.
He believes the team needs to work on its consistency.
“We need to get better offensively,” Geary said. “We can’t go from hitting the ball really well one day to not hitting the ball at all.” He added that Baldwin needs to work on “just staying consistent throughout games.”
McKain agreed.
“We just have to play complete games. We’ll come into a game, play a good four innings, and then in the last three innings, we won’t play very well,” McKain said. “So playing well the whole game is what we need to work on.”
The loss dropped the boys’ seed in the playoffs.
“It really didn’t really matter section-wise, but this just means we’ll just get a lower seed. But it’s nothing we need to worry about,” he said.
Baldwin will face Seton-LaSalle away at 4 p.m. Friday.
