At Wednesday’s flag football game at California Area High School, Baldwin lost 28-6.
Sophomore Layla Miller said playing against California Area was a challenge.
“They have a lot of tall players,” Miller said. “So they have that as an advantage. I think they have a lot of speed on their team and just get to where they need to be.”
Miller said that for the rest of the season, Baldwin is going to work on getting better at catching the ball, and, like California Area did, “getting to where (they) need to be.”
She said that although Baldwin is good at running, being good at receiving is a huge part of what it takes to win.
“Honestly, we need to work on just catching the ball,” she said. “You can’t get anywhere running the ball, so you have to be able to catch.”
Still, the Highlanders have improved tremendously as a team throughout the season, Miller said.
“I think we’ve definitely improved a lot. We’ve got to know each other and we talk to each other more, and that alone makes it easier to connect with each other on the field,” she said.
Baldwin’s next game is home at 6 p.m. today against Clairton.
