The Baldwin boys track team secured a playoff spot during a meet at home on Tuesday against Upper St. Clair and Mt. Lebanon.
Sophomore Nasir Anderson said the boys did a good job earning second place and the playoff spot, especially since Mt. Lebanon was favored and won the section.
“Lebo was thought to win,” Anderson said. “They’re the stronger opponents, but everyone still ran their race.”
Anderson said junior Jack Reichl did particularly well in his events, the 800 and 4×800 relay.
Junior Logan Breisinger also had a strong meet.
“He won the 300,” Anderson said. “He also stepped up for the 4×1.”
Despite the boys securing their spot in the playoffs, they were disappointed in losing the section title. Improvements could have been made, Anderson said.
“We needed to finish stronger,” he said.
Moving towards playoffs, the boys team plans to go in with a calm mindset, Anderson said.
The girls team did not make the playoffs. But at the meet, Brooke Cichon and Anna Plunkett, who throw discus and shot put, each set personal records.
“I have been trying to be consistent,” Plunkett said. “I chose to do a stand throw, which is the simplest one, because I knew I could get one out there like that.”
Even though the girls did not win against Mt. Lebanon and Upper St. Clair, Plunkett and Cichon still enjoyed the meet.
“I enjoy celebrating good throws with the team and getting overall support from everyone,” Cichon said.
