The girls lacrosse team lost 19-13 to Plum Monday night, although senior Olivia O’Malley scored eight times, including her 100th goal for Baldwin.
O’Malley entered the game needing four goals to hit 100. She reached that total early in the game.
“Once I took the first draw and I could tell I had good control over it, I knew it was going to happen really fast,” O’Malley said. “I cannot believe I hit that milestone in the first quarter.”
O’Malley was fouled and won an eight-meter shot, and she scored off of that play for her 100th goal.
“There were about two minutes left in the first quarter, and I just wanted to get my shot off quickly with good placement,” O’Malley said. “I got it, and I just started screaming and running to hug everybody.”
O’Malley was surrounded by support from her teammates. The close-knit team is always supportive, especially for a milestone like this, O’Malley said.
Moving on from this loss to Plum, O’Malley said the team could improve on transitioning after their goalie makes a save.
“We need to work on getting that first open pass,” O’Malley said. “When we were trying to transition, none of us could get open to get that pass because they were always on their girl.”
The Highlanders found success on the draws, with O’Malley scoring the first goal of the game off of an early draw.
Plum played an aggressive game, but Baldwin did as well.
“They were aggressive on ground balls. Every ground ball fight was 50-50 the whole game,” O’Malley said. “It could have been anybody’s ball at any point.”
The team’s next game is 7 p.m. Wednesday at Peters.
