The flag football team lost two games over the weekend, to Belle Vernon and Seton LaSalle.
Friday’s game against Belle Vernon featured several lead changes, with Belle Vernon coming out on top, 28-20.
“It was a very close game. We could have won,” junior Bayleigh Jakuboski said
The Highlanders were keeping up with Belle Vernon, but a final touchdown made the difference for the Leopards.
“We did let down for one big touchdown that they did score,” Jakuboski said.
Jakboski said Baldwin needs to work on pulling flags moving into the next couple of weeks. Freshman Nicole Gruntz agreed.
“I think we could work on pulling flags because our defense did well, but they kind of struggled on that,” Gruntz said.
Senior Jacey Klingensmith stood out for Baldwin, scoring two touchdowns, Gruntz said.
On Saturday, Baldwin played Seton LaSalle and lost 48-0.
Seton LaSalle has more experience in the sport, which showed in the final score. Freshman Sara Kalikote shouted out Dior Ellis, a freshman running back on Seton LaSalle.
“She was catching everything and was really fast. She was really good,” Kalikote said.
Sophomore Layla Miller complimented Seton’s chemistry and performance.
“They’ve learned how to find each other on the field and they have great team chemistry,” Miller said.
Kalikote complimented Baldwin’s offense and defense, mentioning senior Lilly Schwarz and Klingensmith.
“Lilly did really well at pulling people’s flags, and Jacey was trying to score a bunch of touchdowns,” Kalikote said.
Kalikote is proud of the team’s season so far, regardless of the losses.
“I think we’ve been playing really good for this being our first year,” Kalikote said.
The team’s next game is at 6 p.m. today at West Mifflin.
