Baldwin’s indoor percussion and winter guard both did well at Greater Johnstown High School‘s Tournament Indoor Association competition over the weekend.
The winter guard was the only team in its division. Indoor percussion came in first out of two teams. The guard had a score of 80.6, and percussion scored an 80.3.
The guard’s score went up compared to the last competition.
“It is looking good for championships,” junior Melody Latt said.
Latt thinks the guard improved with the storytelling aspect of their performance. She said freshman Steven Winschel stood out.
“He has this one solo toss where he rolls under his rifle as he’s tossing it, and I just think it’s really cool how he’s able to do that as a freshman. It really just shows how much effort he puts into this sport,” Latt said.
Indoor percussion’s points also jumped up from their last competition.
“I definitely think this was probably our best run we’ve ever had,” sophomore Gianna Regec said.
Freshman Dylan Benestelli stood out, Regec said.
“He played all of his music right. I could definitely hear him the most out of the bass line for sure,” Regec said.
Percussion improved timing with the front and battery from the last competition, where they had a lot of tearing. They only had one big tear at the end of this competition.
Their next competition will be this Saturday at Mt. Lebanon for the TIA Championship.
