Baldwin’s Overwatch team lost to Apponequet Regional High School from Massachusetts 3-1 in the playoff semifinals on Thursday.
It was a really tough match for the team, as their communication with each other was failing, senior Laeth Salih said.
“There wasn’t much communication after rounds one and two,” Salih said.
The team started out 0-2, which was a deficit that was hard to recover from. In the 15-minute intermission before the third round, the Highlanders talked about communication being an issue.
“Comms fell apart round one and two. It started to pick up in rounds three and four, but we lost the lead early on because of that,” senior Zach Czapko said.
The team is sad about the loss because they feel that they were good enough to win it all.
“We should have gone to the championship, but you know it’s not always going to happen,” Salih said.
Despite the loss, both players feel that the team has improved this season.
“I think everybody has definitely improved. More versatility this season was very helpful, and it was a big reason we won in the later rounds,” Czapko said.
“This is one of the best esports seasons we’ve had all around. I’m very proud of the team,” Salih said.
