The Baldwin boys baseball team shut out Gateway 11-0 on Tuesday.
Sophomore Hudson McKain led the way for the Highlanders as he pitched seven innings, only allowing one hit and getting 11 strikeouts. McKain also had a double and a triple during the game.
“For the conditions and how wet it was, we played great defense throughout the game,” McKain said.
On offense, the team batted well, with hits distributed throughout the lineup. Junior Devan Stanziano had a big hit that swung the momentum early, and junior Aiden Robinson had a double.
Most of the team had a hit on two of their three batting attempts, overwhelming the Gators’ defense.
Though the Highlanders played a great game, they still have a few things to touch up on.
“We could patch up our hitting approach and a few baserunning mistakes,” McKain said.
The Highlanders are now 8-2 overall and have a 5-1 section record, which ties them for first in the section with Thomas Jefferson and Montour.
The Highlanders’ next game is at home against Shaler at 4 p.m. Thursday.
