The Overwatch 2 esports team advanced to the third round of playoffs after the Carver High School Crusaders forfeited Friday’s match.
Had Carver High School not forfeited, the team is still confident they would have won.
“It would have been closer than our first (playoff) match, but I think we would have pulled away,” senior Laeth Salih said.
Even though the Highlanders did not play, the team stayed focused and is preparing for the next round.
In the third round of playoffs, Baldwin will play Pennfield Senior High School on Tuesday. Baldwin played Pennfield in Week 1 and lost in a very close match, which means this playoff game offers a chance for redemption.
Pennfield is seen as a strong team after finishing in the top three last season, and they are expected to be a tough opponent.
“Our goal is to push forward all the way to the finals,” senior Zach Czapco said.
The team is studying gameplay and reviewing tape to get ready for the match, Salih said.
Even if the team doesn’t end up winning the championship, they are still proud of how far they have come this season.
“Even if we lose, we put up one of the best seasons in a very long time,” Czapco said.
