Rory McIlroy won the Masters this past weekend at Augusta National Golf Club, his second straight year of finishing on top.
McIlroy won the green jacket last year as he completed his grand slam – achieving wins in all four of the major golf tournaments: the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and The Open Championship. It took McIlroy roughly 11 years to complete his grand slam, but now he has gone out and he won the Masters again.
This Masters was competitive, with many of the players being only one stroke away from each other. McIlroy did not play his best in the last two rounds, with five bogeys and two double bogeys. But he came through with nine birdies, helping him pull away from the others.
Scottie Scheffler was able to come close by making a huge comeback from sixth place. Scheffler ended up finishing second, just one stroke behind McIlroy.
McIlroy had tough competition going into Sunday, as he was tied with Cameron Young at 11 under. He had to play his best golf the whole way through to keep the title his. Young finished tied for third, two shots behind McIlroy.
The last person to get back-to-back wins at The Masters was Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002. Now, McIlroy is the green jacket holder and back-to-back winner.
