The Baldwin softball team kept the section record perfect on Thursday by defeating Trinity 10-5.
Senior Mackenzie Bowen said sophomore Cam Temme stood out during Thursday’s game.
“Cam went 2-3 with a solo home run,” Bowen said. “She also played a good defensive game and threw someone out at home.”
Bowen said early success helped them win.
“We jumped on them in the first inning, which gave us a lot of momentum throughout the rest of the game,” Bowen said.
Trinity did not respond well to the Highlanders’ style of play.
“We played a lot of small ball throughout the game, especially early on,” Bowen said. “That really helped us because they had trouble stopping us.”
Despite the win there are still some little things that the Highlanders can clean up.
“We can be more aggressive in the field,” Bowen said. “We have to trust ourselves and teammates to make plays.”
Trinity put pressure on the Highlanders defense by putting balls in play and keeping their energy high.
“Even though they were down they were never really out of the game,” Bowen said. “Their energy stood out to me and they were able to put pressure on our defense and made us make plays.”
The Highlanders are 6-0 the first time through section play and looking to stay undefeated.
“We have to stay present in each game and focus on the game ahead of us,” Bowen said.
Baldwin will play Peters Township at home at 6 p.m. today.
