The boys lacrosse team defeated Gateway 16-5 on Thursday night.
Five of Baldwin’s goals were scored by junior Owen Mcluckie.
“Owen stood out because he scored five goals,” senior Evan Szpara said. “He had a lot of shots on net, and he played pretty well.”
Junior Kaden Kicinski also had a strong game, scoring and always being in the right position, Szpara said.
Baldwin started off the game with only a 4-3 lead after the first quarter, but the Highlanders gained momentum as the game continued.
“When the second quarter came around, we picked it up and really extended the lead,” Szpara said.” At that point we kind of knew we had the game in the bag.”
Baldwin did well to prevent Gateway from scoring goals.
“We played really good defense because they only scored four goals,” Szpara said. “The other team didn’t have that bad of an offense.”
The season has been inconsistent for Baldwin, with games having vastly different outcomes, he said.
“We’ve had some games where we absolutely kill teams, some games where it’s close, and some games we just get blown out,” Szpara said.
The team’s next game is against South Fayette at home at 7:30 p.m. today.
