The Overwatch 2 esports team won their first round of playoffs 3-0 against Norwin on Wednesday.
This match was in brawl-style, which is a close-range combat mode.
“We did very well as a team,” senior Laeth Salih said.
The team’s offense did well by pressuring Norwin, which led to mistakes. The defense had control throughout the whole game, which led to the shutout.
“I don’t think that they got to leave spawn for most of the game,” senior Xander Dirling said, referring to the game’s safety area.
Despite playing without their main tank player, the Highlanders pulled through.
“I think our sub-in, Xander (Dirling), played very well,” Salih said.
Dirling picked up the tank role. The team knew he could play that role, but he exceeded expectations.
“I was playing that game for the first time in a while. I was running a dive tank and frontline tank. I would go in and they would fall,” Dirling said.
Dirling said Norwin played with a lot of confidence and that overall it was a good game.
“I am very confident in this team and that we can go far,” Salih said.
The next round of playoffs will be Friday.
